What we do.

Here's how River Valley Ground Search and Rescue supports our community and those in need.

When it counts, we're there.

Our mission.

When someone goes missing in our communities, RVGSAR is there to support and conduct search and rescue operations. We're committed to helping people in crisis, find their way home as quickly as possible.

In short about us.

What we do.

RVGSAR supports the River Valley region of New Brunswick. Specifically, RVGSAR responds to missing persons incidents in the regions the area referred to as the River Valley: Saint John to St. Martins, the Fundy Footpath, from the Bay of Fundy to Evandale and Welsford

These incidents can often be life threatening and so RVGSAR takes this service very seriously, relying on the partners, diligent training, and GSAR techniques. If you'd like to support this mission, we're always looking for relevant donations.

Our team

100% volunteer led and operated.

Our volunteers are trained in the latest and greatest ground search and rescue techniques and technology.

Every member of the GSAR is training in first aid with AED and receives field training.

RVGSAR conducts multiple simulated search, rescue and first aid scenarios each year. Our volunteers learn to operate as a team so we can help people when they need it most.

I joined RVGSAR to give back to the community, to save lives, and to enjoy the outdoors at the same time. Today, after lots of good training, I love the challenges of managing searches and events.

Our story

A brief history of RVGSAR

River Valley Ground Search and Rescue (RVGSAR) is an all-volunteer organization that searches for individuals lost in wilderness, rural and urban areas. RVGSAR provides services to the RCMP, local police, the Emergency Management Organization (EMO), and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

RVGSAR’s services, equipment and personnel are available to law enforcement agencies throughout New Brunswick at no charge. RVGSAR was formed in 1985. Since then, the team has participated in hundreds of search operations and rescued many dozens of lost hikers, campers, hunters, seniors, and children.

The team also responds to mutual aid requests from other areas in the province and – during exceptional circumstances – agencies outside the province (for example, in response to the Swiss Air crash in Nova Scotia). RVGSAR performs an average of 10 searches a year.
